Sun Prints & Silhouettes: Cyanotypes with Liv Garber

Sun Prints & Silhouettes: Cyanotypes with Liv Garber

Cost: $75 Per Person

August 16th 12-2 PM

Join illustrator and printmaker Liv Garber for an introduction to the gorgeous deep blue inky medium of cyanotype, a historic photographic printing process that uses sunlight to create vivid blue tinted images.

Participants will experiment with foraged natural materials, found objects, and unique paper silhouettes to create a series of original prints while experimenting with composition, layering, and image making. Inspired by early photography and animation, we’ll also explore simple techniques for suggesting movement through repetition and sequence.

No prior experience is required. All materials are provided, including pre-coated cyanotype paper, a selection of natural objects, and a library of pre-cut silhouettes to use. Participants will leave with multiple finished prints and the knowledge to continue exploring the process.

Participants will make 3 Sun Prints! You are more than welcome to bring anything to print from home, but Liv will be bringing many, many materials to select from as well. It should be said that when we asked Liv what kind of materials participants can bring, she said “They can go nuts!” So please – by all means. Go nuts.

This workshop is beginner friendly, and the skills you learn from this workshop can be practiced at home!

Please note that workshops are non-refundable within one week of the scheduled date. If you need to reschedule, kindly reach out to the studio.

About Liv Garber:

Liv Garber is a painter, illustrator (drawer), educator, and devoted pen pal. They use a variety of mixed media like colored pencil, gouache, collage, and digital mediums to create their work. Liv’s work revolves around fictionalized diaristic landscapes, whimsical inner worlds, and creating an imperfect yet pleasurable universe where gentleness is rewarded.

Liv is also a part-time professor at Parsons School of Design, where they teach drawing and studio-based classes focused on exploring how work can exist within a 3D space and on cultivating a research and experimentation driven studio practice.

In addition to drawing and educating, Liv also runs a risograph printing press called Pen Pal Riso, and sends hundreds of letters across the globe each month with their independent risograph project, Pen Pal Club.
