Kiln Carved Christmas Ornaments

Want to try something a little different for your holiday décor this year? In this class, we’re doing something new. In this two hour workshop, we’ll be creating stunning textures and patterns in glass that catch the light beautifully. Basically, these ornaments are gonna look jaw dropping gorgeous on your tree. Or in your window. Or where ever you’re gonna hang these beauties. In this workshop, you’ll create three kiln-carved ornaments that shimmer with unique, hand-made detail.

What’s Kiln Carving? Great question! 
Instead of piecing together glass, in this 2 hour workshop you’ll design and carve patterns into a special fiber paper that then gets placed under a piece of glass. When your glass is fired in the kiln, those patterns become embossed right into the surface, giving your ornaments a crisp, dimensional look. This workshop is great for beginners AND great for seasoned glass artists– the demo is super easy, and the supplies are accessible! If you can hold a pencil, you can do this!

You’ll be doing something called coldworking, meaning you are making the project without using a kiln. We’ll be doing the firing after you leave. Projects will be ready in about a week or so after the workshop. We’ll be using exacto blades and scissors to cut out our designs.
